Sam joins Ferrari
Ferrari have announced the signing of reigning LMP2 world champion Sam Bird to join their assault on the World Endurance Championship.
The 28-year-old Briton had previously raced the Ferrari 458 Italia twice in the 2014 for AF Corse, securing a class podium on his debut at Silverstone and class pole position at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
During the 2015 season he competed in the WEC LMP2 class for G-Drive Racing, helping them to the team and driver titles, and is also currently competing for DS Virgin Racing in the FIA Formula E Series.
He now joins the Maranello team as a factory driver and will race the new 488 GTE, partnering Davide Rigon in the #71 car.
Bird said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be joining the Ferrari family. It's a true honour to be chosen to represent the legendary Prancing Horse in the World Endurance Championship. Thank you to everyone in Maranello for this wonderful opportunity."
